The Project Cost Controller is an important role within the Engineering Department and Project Management Office. As the right-hand of the project managers from a control’s perspective, this person has keen insight into the project’s overall current and forecast performance. This role supports the Project Manager through the integration of actual performance data into our Estimate-to-Complete cost models, insuring accurate labor and cost analysis are available on a monthly basis.
The scope of responsibilities for the Project Cost Controller includes:
Performs the initial project controls set-up based on the project project execution budget approved during the bid process.
Leverages data between cost and schedule in order to predict cost outcomes, cash flow, revenue recognition, etc.
Produces the project cost forecasts that are structured in a fashion which is optimal for both client and team member use in accordance with small projects requirements.
Updates project financial dashboards with actual costs and compares against project budget and last estimate. Assists PM in defining variance and evaluating recovery plans.
Researches cost records on request and elevates issues in a timely manner. Uses data from the PM and JDE to forecast project expenditures, cash flow and project PoC.
Implements cost and accounting procedures and ensures that all expenditures, estimates and change orders are properly coded.
Works directly with Accounting and/or finance to make necessary adjustments to cost allocations.
Provides project information and data to accounting and finance for entry into accounting and finance systems, internal and external reports, etc.
Generates, reviews and submits portfolio performance reports to provide Managers with the information necessary to effectively understand and manage the road-side portfolio.
Provides project productivity analysis, including labor and financial performance trends such as variances from plan, cash flow, revenue target obtainment, etc.
Works with Project Managers to maintain cash flow plans.
Assists the Project Administrator in preparing client invoicing packages and helps manage issues with associated account receivables, working directly with the client A/P department if requested by the PM.
Reviews/tracks vendor/subcontractor invoices and coordinates with A/P to handle associated payment issues.
Qualified candidates will possess a Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or related field with a minimum of 3-5 years of external project finance experience (e.g., construction/engineering projects, 3rd party projects, etc.).
Expert in MS Excel, including advanced pivot table management, and well versed in MS Word and MS PowerPoint
Experience with MS Project preferred
Experience with corporate finance/accounting systems (e.g., ERP systems such as JD Edwards)
Excellent organizational skills and experience working under pressure and deadlines
Ability to adapt to shifting priorities, demands and timelines with positive attitude
Ability to work extended hours when needed to support critical periods in monthly, quarterly and annual accounting cycle
Ability to work on several projects simultaneously
Able to work effectively both independently and in a team based environment with minimal supervision
Strong written and oral communications skills
