Software Quality Assurance Engineer

Role Overview:

This role applies technical skills to executing quality assurance testing of planned software releases across multiple software applications that support multiple client programs. The Quality Assurance Analyst evaluates planned system changes to define valid test cases to be executed. The analyst executes test cases to confirm software is functioning to specification and possess strong analytical skills, with manual testing skills as well as some experience with automated testing.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage multiple testing projects and scheduling of testing efforts.

  • Analyze business requirements and technical specifications for Multiplan applications to create the corresponding test strategy, test plans, and test cases.

  • Validate accuracy of planned test effort and agreement of test cases required to confirm valid function.

  • Based on test scenarios, create, track, maintain and execute manual testing of applications.

  • Maintain accurate updates of work progress on work items within the software development management system (TFS).

  • Report to team/lead regarding progress and pass/fail status.

  • Update the QA and Project teams on areas of risk based on test results and to highlight entrenched failure points or limitations of test approach or limitations within the testing tools available.

  • Execute regression tests, analyze the results, and report any defects to the project team.

  • Interact extensively with software developers, business analysts during the test cycle to keep team members accurately updated on defects and confirm prioritization for redevelopment and retest efforts.

  • Follow a structured approach to testing across client programs using similar software applications for consistency, efficiency of testing resource hours.

  • Self-directed, requires little direction to accomplish test tasks across the breadth of the client software applications that exist.

  • Able to interpret and execute client UAT test plans with limited direction from the Software Configuration Lead.

  • Capable of quickly learning multiple proprietary software applications to advance knowledge to a level that supports effective QA assessment of functionality during the test cycle.

  • This position will require occasional after hours/weekend testing for emergencies and production deployments.

Requirements:

  • 3 years’ experience in quality assurance in a Windows environment.

  • Experience in front-end and backend testing required.

  • Strong manual testing experience.

  • Ability to multi-task and manage changing priorities.

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate with a wide variety of people including internal teams both on and offshore.

  • Must be currently eligible to work in the US for any employer without sponsorship.

  • Must consent to and successfully clear all required pre-employment screenings.

Preferences:

  • 2 years of automated testing preferred.

  • Ability to understand/develop SQL queries.

  • Prior experience with Microsoft Test Manager preferred.

  • Agile development process experience preferred.

  • Experience working with offshore teams preferred.

Location: This position is located onsite in Austin, TX. No relocation assistance is provided.
